Help!
We’ve all been there. Sometimes things just don’t work. So, how do we fix them? How do we get the outside assistance we need? Here are some resources and ideas to get you back to where you want to be as quickly as possible. Please note that we have a huge FAQ page (here) as well in case you have general questions or do not see your question topic listed below.
Here’s What’s on This Page
- The site is not working
- I don’t like my group, moderator, (or someone else) but I need to be discreet about this
- My stupid cards are not working!
- I just have questions! Who can I ask?
The site is not working
This is happening: A link says to “go here” but it leads somewhere else
Try this! We understand, and we hate when that happens. The Internet is like a giant bowl of spaghetti sometimes. It is a tangled mess of interconnected parts and sometimes things just break. May we recommend *any* of these steps (and feel free to jump to the end if you like:
- Look at what the link “says” it should go to, or the image and see what it seems to be pointing to. Do you know another way to get to that spot? (Also write us immediately)
- Ignore the problem if it begins to take too much of your time — time you need to be studying. Complain about it later vaguely in group.
- Click the link t the top of *every page* to “Say hi!” and let us know immediately. Please tell us what page you are ON, and what page, lesson, concept, or destination you would LIKE to get to. Also, if you could, the exact words used in the link, or describe the image. This helps us solve the problem instead of not being able to find the issue and having to pester you for more details.
This is happening: This stupid site looks crappy on my phone!
Try this! If this point still appears on this page, it is because we are *still* having issues with out IT department personnel. The site “is” responsive (works on mobile), but due to extreme technical issues, we are having problems with “portrait mode” on small screens (watches, phones). While we are figuring this out, please turn your phone sideways, or watch the videos (and read the forums) on larger screens. But rest assured, heads are rolling over this. We are working hard to solve this problem and apologize profusely for any inconveniences you may be experiencing on small screens.
This is happening: I can’t log in
Try this! Please see our FAQ page!
I don’t like my group, moderator, (or someone else) but I need to be discreet about this
This is happening: This person is a jerk! (but it’s not me)
A. Tell us confidentially right here, right now. We want to help sort this out. You don’t need an excuse. If you are unhappy, we can do our best to help you find a new study buddy, practice group, or flay the offending staff member as necessary. Please make sure to include this handy term: “CONFIDENTIAL!” in your note to ensure that no one hears from us that you came to us for help. While we cannot prevent anyone from deducing that there is a problem, they won’t hear anything from us.
This is happening: I don’t like the founder. He is a jerk!
A. Let us know! We love gossip! We won’t spread it, but if you want to clue us in on some issue, we will be happy to listen patiently and see how we might be able to resolve this to your satisfaction. No one here is above reproach or a good dressing down when they need. If someone is out of line, it should be resolved, especially “people at the top.” This is the only way a true egalitarian community can exist. Now spill the tea!
This is happening: I’m just angry and I want to complain to someone!
A. Great! We love passion! Let us be your venting space. We may not be able to solve the problem, issue, or discomfort, but if you have no one else you can trust to listen and be discreet, come vent here and get it outside of you instead of allowing it to eat you from the inside. We cannot guarantee a solution (as we don’t even know the problem yet) but we *all* need somewhere to vent sometimes, and if you need, you can write us here. Again, just make sure you use the handy term “CONFIDENTIAL!” in your note.
My stupid cards are not working!
This is happening: Whenever I shuffle my cards, it feels like they are fighting me. It literally feels like they have a mind of their own, or they are being unruly. They don’t slide together nicely. They catch on each other, or try to bend and fold, and I don’t like that!
Try this! This happens a *lot* with new decks, and the more cards in your deck (say 78 instead of 52 — or less), the better the chance two or more cards will jam up against each other and “fight for the same physical point in space.” This has happened to all of us. If your deck is new(ish), try “breaking them in.” We have several techniques you might try. If you can’t find those instructions, “say hi!” and let us know. Be detailed and specific please. When sending a general inquiry, please be as detailed as you can stand being so that we understand the issue and can fix it.
But what if it is not a matter of “new cards” or stiff cards that refuse to work properly? What if it feels like your cards are fighting you? This happens more often than any of us would like to acknowledge is possible (after all, they are just cards, right?). Try this: Set your deck down. If “they have you frustrated” feel free to scold them (or shout at the sky, grumble, whatever it takes to release the frustration from inside, and get it out of you). Literally stand up. Stretch, walk around, go wash your hands. Turn on YouTube and watch a classic cartoon (a short one that is only a few minutes). In other words, clear your mind, your psyche, and “re-set” your physical state. It’s not “you,” but it is important to get out of that space and come back refreshed, and “clear your deck” before proceeding. Spin your deck, wash your deck (mush them all around the table), cut them again, and again, (and again), to get the “ick” out of them. Do not skip this part. Get the cooties out of your deck and start over. It only sounds silly until you do this and it works.
Just don’t try to fight your way through this and end up ruining your reading or your practice time. It may be that you are soaking up really bad vibes from your client or someone/something, and this is the fastest way to find out (discretely).
This is happening: I can’t get my “ding!”
Try this! If you can’t feel the moment it is time to stop shuffling, do any of these exercises from the black book (Advanced Tarot Secrets). These were created specifically to help you develop your instincts, and to “hear” (or feel) the moment the right number of cards (the exact number you will need for the spread you have chosen — not the entire deck) are in order for you too deal out. This is probably the most important skill you can develop by the way. Even if you can’t read your way out of a paper bag, if you can get “the best cards” to come out, the images on those cards will spark something in your head to vomit out just the right words. We call this “channeling” and it its the ultimate skill you will develop with your cards.
So let’s just fix that now. Do this:
Exercise: New You Can Trust: You can do this with any short-form cyclical news show, but audio is better than video, as that format forces the announcer to be more clear and specific, and present you with salient facts instead of relying on images to sell you an opinion. Also, audio stimulus forces you to look at something (why not the cards in your hands?) as you process the information. The short format of these “news programs” gives you dynamic content to ask questions about, but doesn’t linger any longer than it takes you to get a card or two and move on to the next story.
Exercise: Walk around your house, office, studio, or other safe space that is filled with interesting bits and bobs, and allow your eyes to roam. When they land on something that grabs your attention, formulate a quick simple question about that thing. Shuffle your cards as you stare at it, intently asking your question again and again. FEEL your cards rearranging themselves in your hands, and select that one that just seems to want to come out. Examine that card. Does it clearly relate to your query? Great. Pat yourself on the back and move on. Don’t try to solve the mysteries of existence or cure cancer here. The point is to work on your triggers. If the card makes no sense, try no more than two more times before moving on to something else. This is all about persistent proper practice, not just practice pulling random cards from a pile.
This is happening: My cards never make any sense!
Try this! Go back and work the exercises in the white book, but especially 1, and 1a. Then move on to exercise 2. If you can do those easily, spend time with the never ending story, and then move on the to the black book and spend real time doing Cards in Scenarios, and Card in Position. Use these exercises to help you develop your skill at using your cards as “universal translation devices” from your guides to the words you speak.
I just have questions! Who can I ask?
